Launch day is exciting, but it is also when small oversights become visible to everyone. Many campaign problems have nothing to do with the creative idea. They come from rushed planning, unclear roles or missed details. Here are some common mistakes and simple ways to avoid them.

Launching without a clear goal

If the team cannot agree what success looks like, it is hard to judge whether the campaign worked. Set a clear objective and a small number of measures before launch. Make sure everyone, including senior stakeholders, understands them.

Forgetting the people inside the business

Customers may ask your staff about a campaign before your marketing team hears about it. Brief customer service, sales and reception teams in advance. Share the key message, the offer and answers to likely questions. An informed team makes the campaign feel joined up.

Skipping the final checks

Small errors can undermine a strong campaign. Before going live, work through a checklist such as this:

  • Test every link, form and landing page on mobile and desktop
  • Check spelling, prices, dates and terms
  • Confirm tracking is set up and working
  • Review audience targeting and budgets on each platform
  • Make sure your website and team can handle extra enquiries
  • Agree who is monitoring comments and responding in the first few days

Changing course too quickly

It is natural to want instant results, but campaigns often need time to settle. Avoid making major changes in the first few days based on very limited data. Agree in advance when you will review performance and what would trigger a change.

Stopping the moment it ends

A campaign does not really end when the adverts stop. Follow up with people who responded, share learnings with the team and record what you would do differently next time. These notes are valuable when planning the next campaign, and they help new colleagues learn from past work.

A little extra preparation makes launch day calmer and more successful. If you have a campaign on the horizon and would like a second opinion on your plan, the Northpeak team would be happy to talk.
